The importance of wifi and ethernet digital clocks in hospitals.
The importance of time-keeping in industries such as healthcare and hospitals is crucial. Managing time with patients and their needs is a huge responsibilty for both doctors and nurses. In order for hospitals to function in a productive manner, a reputable time keeping system is much needed. A wifi or internet enabled clock system is a great resource that is really a must have in order for patients to have a successful recovery, which can be based on the timing protocol of medicines administered to patients, along with other scenarios too. Time-keeping technologies from TimeMachines, including our gps time servers and wifi enabled clock systems offer a great way for doctors and nurses to keep vital records and tracking, along with code blue situations as well.
Where can I find a list of time servers to use?
There are currently 20 IP addresses to choose from, via NIST (Internet Time Servers), to use when connecting your network clock to a stratum 1 time source. Also, make sure that your software does not query an internet time server more than once every 4 seconds, otherwise your service could be refused by NIST.
Quick Set-up Guide for PTP Time Server.
1. Remove contents from packaging.
* Black Time Server Case * GPS Antenna * Power Cord * Four Rubber Feet
2. Connect the GPS antenna to the back side of the Time Server via the gold SMA connector. Connect the Power Plug into the back of the Time Server then into any standard electrical outlet. Connect the Network Cable into the port of the desired Network for the Time Server.
1. Green LED labeled “POW” indicates power.
2. Yellow LED labeled “LOCK” indicates GPS Satellite acquisition.
3. Yellow LED labeled “SEC” indicates every second the Time Server receives an update from the GPS Satellite.
3. Point your web browser to the default IP address of the time server (192.168.1.20) in order to access the configuration web page.
4. Enter the default username as “admin” and password as “tmachine” when prompted and proceed to change the time server parameters as desired.
5. Resetting to Factory Defaults.
To do this, insert a paperclip or ball point pen end through the hole in the front of the unit until you feel the button depress. Hold this button down for a 3 seconds and release the button. It should now be set to the factory default PASSWORD and IP ADDRESS information.

What is holdover time and what can it do for me?
Holdover time is when a GPS clock loses its satellite lock and uses an internal clock source in order to continue serving time. The TM1000A has no holdover capability and is dependent on the GPS satellite lock to be present 100% of the time in order to serve time. The TM2000A does have a high precision internal Oven Controlled Oscillator (OCXO) that supports a 20 parts per billion (ppb) accuracy. Holdover time begins when GPS satellite lock is lost, and holdover stops when GPS lock is regained. This can be very useful in locations where the GPS lock may be intermittent throughout the day because of obstacles that prevent the GPS from maintaining constant lock.
An accurate and stable oscillator is key here, the better it is, the longer the time period the server can run without GPS. There are higher precision time sources available such as rubidium, but the OCXO makes a nice trade off in accuracy versus cost.
What's the difference between NTP and PTP Time Servers?
Both NTP and PTP synchronization have the ability to update networked device's internal time clocks, however the accuracy that can be achieved is very different. NTP responds to queries for time and is accurate within a few milliseconds depending on the network it is being used on. PTP is a more sophisticated protocol that can achieve accuracy in the sub 1 micro-second range by essentially creating a connection between a client and the server and frequently updating the time. PTP has an algorithm allowing more than one server to broadcast time on same network and maintain a hierarchy of servers. NTP has no built in backup plan for a time server failure other than multiple servers on the network that the clients know how to access. TimeMachines sell two time servers. The TM1000A is our NTP time server, and the TM2000A is our combination NTP+PTP time server.6/2/2016
