PoE Custom Dot Matrix Displays
If it is true that the greatest problem with communication is the illusion that it has actually been accomplished, how do you make sure your team is on the same page? Our PoE custom dot matrix display provides you with a very powerful method of communication. It is a custom messaging device, yet it can also be used to display the time, or the date, or both. Need it to be a timer instead? It has those features too. The device is powered over Ethernet, and since it is also configured on your network, it can be synchronized with other displays, or it can be customized independently.
The TimeMachines PoE custom dot matrix displays also use Network Time Protocol (NTP) to display your network's time or your custom message, just as our clocks do. Every PoE network display is assigned a unique IP address within your network and can be configured to either an internal network time source or an external, internet-based time server like NIST Internet Time Service. Whether your time is sourced internally or through the internet, all of these networked devices can display synchronized time wherever they are located within your facility.
PoE NTP Dot Matrix Display Setup
These PoE NTP dot matrix displays are simple to set up – simply plug one in to a PoE enabled Ethernet network connection. Within a few moments, it will synchronize and display time.
Now you are ready to customize the clock and message settings for your display. Simply push the button on the bottom of your display two times to get the DHCP served IP address for your device – it will scroll across the display.
Then using a web browser (Chrome and Firefox are recommended), type in the IP address that was displayed as the URL. For example, http://10.10.0.100. This will take you to the web-based graphic user interface for configuring your display.
Once you are logged in, within the configuration page, you can assign your preferred NTP time source (either within your network or outside), a secondary time source, any time zone customization that may be required, and your display format (12 hour or 24 hour). These are the basic configuration settings that set your time source and enable your time synchronization within the network. All displays on the network should be set to the same time source(s) on their configuration page to ensure synchronization.
The DST Options allow you to customize your daylight savings configuration.
The Text Display configuration is where you enable and control your customized message settings. This feature of the dot matrix can be a powerful addition to your network, yet it is straightforward and simple to use. Once you have typed in your message to the Display Text box, click the Send button to send it to the display. Once you hit Send, the button will change to Stop. If you hit Stop, it will go back to displaying time instead of the Display Text message.
Once you have your message sent and active, you can adjust your Scroll Speed. A larger number is actually a slower scroll rate... the number is related to how long each "dot" of the display is held on before it transitions to the next location. To speed up the message, lower the input number for Scroll Speed. To see the change take effect, you will need to toggle the Stop/Send button again to get the updated settings sent back to your display.
The Static Text Justification is as simple as it sounds. You can have your message aligned on the left, centered, or on the right of the display, depending on your message length and your preferences.
The last part of the custom message display setup is the Scroll Direction. You don't need to scroll your message if it already fits on the display. If you want or need to scroll your message, a horizontal scroll is probably most common. For a horizontal scroll, select Right to Left and the text will enter from the right side and scrolls across to the left as shown in this video to the right.
If you prefer to have a vertical scroll, select Top to Bottom and the message text will begin at the bottom and move to the top of the display. If vertical scroll is used, the Display Text box will need to be entered specifically so that characters on each line can be accommodated within one line of the display or part of your message will not be visible. In the next video, the following settings were used for the Text Display options. Each word is on a separate line of the Display Text box with a hard return [Enter] after each as shown below:
If you tried to use the vertical scroll without this formatting in the Display Text box, the message will be seen as a single line of text and would be too long to be displayed in that mode.
Now that you understand how to customize your message settings, if you decided to use your PoE dot matrix display as a count-up or count-down timer, this next section of configuration settings will be used. The alarm capabilities of this device that can be utilized if a relay connector is added to connect the display to a buzzer or bell. This is also where you can also change the device name (Conference Room #1, Classroom #104, Front Office, etc.), set the access password, and make brightness adjustments for this specific device.
